LYLA BERG, Ph.D. is an international educator, author, professional speaker, resiliency facilitator, and entrepreneur. She is the owner and principal consultant with Lyla Berg and Associates, an international company that focuses on assisting organizations and individuals to live their missions. Lyla assists people in achieving their goals through creative leadership strategies, strong collaboration skills, clear communication, and the spirit of Aloha. Her various careers in education, elected government office, corporate business, and non-profit organizations contribute to her familiarity with people and communities around the world, as well as the challenges they face both professionally and personally.
Lyla was a member of the Hawai`i State House of Representatives for several terms and served for over fifteen years with the State of Hawai`i Department of Education as a classroom teacher and middle school principal, as well as being an instructor in the University of Hawai`i system. She is the Founder/CEO of Kids Voting Hawai`i, a non-profit grassroots organization dedicated to the civic engagement of youth, in grades kindergarten through 12. Lyla hosts a number of the weekly television talk shows in Hawai`i and actively contributes on various boards at the local and national levels. She has received numerous awards for her community service as a transformational leader.
Growing up in Honolulu, Hawai`i, raised and educated in Europe, and well-traveled around the world, Lyla has a multicultural perspective, speaks German and French fluently, and makes friends easily. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Linguistics from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Her Master’s of Education Degrees in Curriculum & Instruction and Educational Administration are from the University of Hawai`i-Manoa in Honolulu, Hawai`i, and The American University in Washington, D.C., respectively. She earned her Ph.D. in Education from the Union Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Lyla is also a mother and an accomplished actress. Having performed in numerous community theater musicals and dramas, and on television, she brings energy, originality, enthusiasm, and humor into all her sessions. In addition to educational programs, she is available for keynote speeches, individual coaching, facilitation, and on a consultation basis. Her most significant achievement and joy has been raising her son as a single mother. Lyla currently resides in Hawai`i and Argentina and enjoys traveling around the world to dance tango.
